Cold Sore Nose Outbreaks

Roberta Sullivan

The nose is an important thing to the human body so when a cold sore nose outbreak occurs, it can cause some uncomfortable results. The pain from a cold sore in the nose area is always worse than those felt around the mouth. All cold sores, no matter the location, are caused from HSV, or the herpes simplex virus-1. The blisters are seen around the nostrils of the nose. They can also be seen around the mouth area. The skin shows as red and swollen. A blister appears and the infection is released. A crust develops over the blistered area and healing begins.

The use of medication on a cold sore nose outbreak is not necessary but can relieve the symptoms. Most cold sores appear to be a group clumped together. They can be embarrassing for the individual especially if an important event is scheduled. Cold sores can appear after contact with the virus through contact with a napkin, towel, or other items used by an infected person. Once the virus enters the body, it can be inactive until a trigger releases it. Triggers include stress, sun damage, an injury, and a weak immune system.

Cold sore nose outbreaks are not curable. Once the virus finds its way into the body it stays in the body for life. The outbreaks will be seen at different points in life. In some individuals, the virus never produces a fever blister. Some people experience outbreaks six or more times in a year.

People of any age can be affected by cold sore nose outbreaks. Many begin to see cold sores as early as age five but ten is more appropriate. Clinical age for cold sores in the nose area is associated with the onset of puberty. This may be caused by the increase in contact with others especially those of the opposite sex. Since skin contact spreads the virus, and a person with a cold sore should not kiss or have sexual contact with others until the cold sore is completely healed. Those with the HSV or herpes virus, which causes the cold sore, should abstain from oral sex completely.

Medication used to treat the symptoms of the virus does not remove it from the body. These medications have antiviral properties and can lessen healing time to about four days. Lysine and zinc supplements are the natural alternatives for cold sore treatment. It is most important not to touch, scratch, or irritate the area. This will only lead to the spread of the fever blister nose outbreak making things much worse and more painful.
